new pocket journals

my newest product additions: four seasonal pocket journals available here. a contrast from my typical simple white backgrounds, i've been playing with rich layers of hatch lines and scribbles behind plant silhouettes. i love the depth and dreamy look to them. you'll see more of this style in my 2012 calendar (coming soon).

home sweet home

i'm back! after closing the store in february i needed to take some time to regroup, rearrange, and rethink. i've moved my studio back to my home, and i am so happy with my simplified life. i can't believe how much extra design and mom time i have now that i'm not managing a store! although i could use some more square footage, i love the perks of a live/work space. i'll post a studio tour soon.

while i'm on the subject of home, i wanted to share a few pics of my trip to visit my mom in my home town of vinalhaven (an island off the coast of maine). it was fun watching my son exploring tide pools and hunting for crabs under the seaweed in the same places i did as a kid. i left there feeling so inspired and thankful to have spent my childhood there. BEAUTIFUL.

important news about our gift shop

EXCITING CHANGES ARE HAPPENING!
As some of you may know, in addition to the Modern Printed Matter gift shop I've been juggling a wholesale greeting card business, freelance graphic design jobs, and online store (not to mention being a full-time mom). Phew, that sounds like a lot! So, in order to free up more time to focus on my stationery design business and family, I’m handing over the reins of the gift store to Muse. Elizabeth is excited to expand her jewelry store to include special occasion items such as baby and wedding gifts, and we’re excited for her! Modern Printed Matter will maintain a presence with our card and paper products at the shop until the end of February, and then Muse will be taking over the store entirely with lots of fun new gift items!

sneak peek 2011 calendar

I'm a bit behind schedule on releasing my annual desk calendar, but it will be released soon I promise! It's really hard to balance my time with this new mom and business owner gig I have going! For those that have been emailing me asking about it, I wanted to give you a little sneak peek of what I've been working on. For three years I designed my calendar with the color constraints of screen printing it by hand (2008, 2009, 2010). Although I loved the simplicity of the silhouettes, I really want to do something different this year. So, I've decided to go with full color offset printing. I'm so excited about the freedom this allows me to have in designing it. It will be a combination of scenes and nature silhouettes layered over each other (created from my own photography). Since today is Oct 1st, I thought this would be an appropriate preview image.
